Every once in awhile a session opportunity comes along that’s completely different than anything I’ve ever photographed before. This Winter Studio Maternity Session is one of those sessions. When Jenae first inquired about her maternity session she wanted to have the session outdoors but she wouldn’t have been much more than 20 weeks which is way too soon for maternity photos (unless you’re having twins). After some more thought, she decided she wanted a studio session because it would have been way too cold for a maternity session in January in Virginia. This made me incredibly excited and nervous because it was going to be something totally new for me.
Since moving from Woodbridge to Winchester, my new studio is capable of capturing maternity sessions whereas before the ceilings were too low and the space was way to small for anything other than young children and newborns. When Jenae mentioned a studio session, I leaped for joy at the opportunity. I had always wanted to photograph a studio maternity session but could never capture those types of sessions since my studio space wouldn’t allow for it.
I met Jenae and Mark a few years ago in Harper’s Ferry for their engagement session. They were planning a wedding in Louisiana a few months later. When I heard from Jenae and Mark again they told me they were expecting which is always such an exciting moment. Knowing Jenae’s style, I knew that what she had in mind for her maternity session would be very classy and elegant. I was right! I loved capturing this session so much and I look forward to all the future sessions I’m able to capture in the new studio.
Some wedding days stay with you not because of every detail, but because of how they felt. Rust Manor House was glowing in the autumn light, with crisp air, golden leaves, and […]

After a few weather-related reschedules, this year’s mini sessions finally came together on a truly perfect fall day. This tree instantly caught everyone’s attention, with clients asking if it was intentionally chosen for the sessions—and it really did feel meant to be. We photographed it at peak color, and just one week later the leaves […]

Starting the day photographing Meridith and Andrew’s engagement session in Winchester couldn’t have been more perfect. As the sun rose, a soft layer of fog rolled in, creating the dreamiest atmosphere and the most beautifully moody images. After having to reschedule because of rain, we decided to embrace the fog—and it added so much character […]
